Scottish War Blinded
This project was for the construction of a new sports hall and four residences including external works, car parking and landscaping.
The sports hall consists of the formation of a 300 square metre main hall, supported by a reception/office space, gym, therapy room, changing rooms, kitchen and toilets. The residences are four semi-detached single storey accessible homes built specifically for visually impaired veterans, complete with gardens and car parking.
The sports hall and residences are serviced by a ground source heat pump system which required the sinking of 10 N0 boreholes, each 125 metres deep.
Construction of the sports hall is steel frame with timber cladding and a pitched zinc roof and the residences are timber frame construction, also with timber cladding and zinc roofs and are serviced by underfloor heating.
External works included the formation of a new access road, bowling green, soft landscaping and car parking areas.
