Glasgow Theatres Ltd.
Works were carried out in two phases with a combined period of 15 weeks. Phase one was completed in 8 weeks during the summer recess and consisted of substantial removal and replacement of seating and re-configuration of the orchestra pit. All new seating in the stalls and grand circle was installed. The orchestra pit was substantially increased in size and a new raised fire proof timber floor fitted to the main auditorium, with service ducts to accommodate the fitting of a ventilation system.
A removable steel deck flooring system was fitted to the orchestra pit which allows the theatre to maintain its current seating levels for normal productions but can easily be removed to allow for a full orchestra performance.
A specially designed carpet bearing the Glasgow Coat of Arms was fitted to all walkways and entrances and a new hardwearing floor covering was fitted to all areas under the new seats. Specialist restoration works were carried out on the existing marble columns and new end of row floor lights were also fitted.
All of this in 8 weeks and in time for the opening show of the new season.
Phase two works consisted of the replacement of the seating to the Upper Circle and the refurbishment of existing seats in the Balcony. We also renew the flooring on these levels and complete the installation of air conditioning throughout the auditorium.
