This is the conversion and fit out of the ‘B’ listed former Johnnie Walker bonded warehouse in the heart of Kilmarnock and was part funded by CARS and Historic Scotland. East Ayrshire Council now occupies the entire building. This was a ‘live’ site with a retail unit and restaurant at each end of the building remaining open throughout the duration of the works.
The 6,000 square metre four floor building was substantially refurbished with internal demolition works, structural alterations, external stonework refurbishment, lead replacement and underpinning works, forming an office shell which includes raised access flooring, four stairs and three lifts and a full mechanical & electrical package. Additional works include a new sprinkler system, including an underground 165,000 litre water tank located beneath the plant room.
320 specially designed timber windows created an abundance of natural light in previously bricked up spaces.
The fit-out contract followed the shell preparation works.
Design was developed from an early stage in co-operation with east Ayrshire Council, meeting the varied aspirations of client and end user departments.
On completion, over 300 Easy Ayrshire Council staff transferred from other offices in to the refurbished building.
