Project Profile - New Function Suite and Ballroom
WATERMILL HOTEL, PAISLEY

Warehouse construction

The Watermill Hotel is situated in the heart of Paisley on the banks of the River Cart which has flooded over the years into the grounds of the hotel. To reduce this risk, the new build floor level was raised 900mm. This is also an historic building and once the ground was opened, the archaeologists spent 8 days investigating the site for artefacts.

The hotel stayed open during the entire construction phase and was handed over on time pre-Christmas, with a certain amount of out of hours working to minimise disruption, particularly when the new bar and floor were being installed.

Construction of the building was by means of a ground bearing floor slab supporting timber kit walls. The roof make up was a mixture of mono pitch roof trusses and structural joists. External walls have a high percentage of glazed screens and windows with feature blockwork completing the external walls. The project also required an entrance to be formed from the existing bar area into the ballroom. Further external landscaping included a feature perimeter wall and entrance gate.
